As the election heats up, the "Arts in the California Governor's Race" campaign wants to make sure that the arts and its positive impact on the California economy is understood by both the candidates and the public. Send email now!
The Arts in the California Governor’s Race project does not endorse any candidate, nor does it support any specific legislation.
Rather, it seeks to educate and inform the candidates in the 2010 California governor’s race, their staffs and key supporters to the value of the arts, arts education, and the creative economy to the state of California. The project will work to convince the candidates for the office of governor in California to take public positions in favor of the principle of public support for the arts and arts education, and public support for the development of California’s creative economy.
November 2010 Update:
Governor-elect Jerry Brown heard your call to support the arts! He demonstrated his support by making the arts, arts education, creativity, and imagination centerpieces of his victory speech on Tuesday night.
Within the first few minutes he explained that he selected the historic Fox Theater in downtown Oakland to deliver this speech because of its restored beauty as an arts venue and home of the Oakland School for the Arts. He spoke of the students on stage from the Oakland School for the Arts as examples of the creativity and imagination California needs going forward.
The Arts in the California Governor's Race Steering Committee knows the momentum of this moment must not be lost. Jerry Brown is already meeting state officials in Sacramento to begin work on the 2011 budget. We are working to share with him and his team specific steps he can take to ensure the arts and arts education play an important role in California's recovery.
We will continue to let you know how you can remind the new governor of the success the creative sector can offer Califorina. The first step we ask you to take is to simply send him an email of congratulations for his victory and thanks for supporting the arts.
